¤ To educate and inspire by exposing the campus community to challenging art created by noted contemporary artists
¤ To provide the committee members with the opportunity to interact with the art world by researching, discussing, and purchasing the best work by emerging and established contemporary artists
CLASS
¤ Participants will be required to enroll in the Art Theory course: Contemporary Art: Theory, Markets, & Collecting (ARTT489C) during the Fall 2008 Semester. This course is also open to students who are not participating in the purchasing program. Taught by Art Theory Professor Rex Weil.
¤ During the Spring 2009 semester, student committee members must also enroll in a one credit class to prepare for their purchase trip to New York City—where they will visit galleries and artist’s studios. At the conclusion of the program, the students on the committee will present their recommendations to a panel of curator's, collectors and artists for final approval of the purchase of contemporary art for the Stamp Student Union Contemporary Art Collection.
¤ Only five students will be selected by application and interview process.
